Annual Staff Recognition Awards: Built Environment and Design Celebrated for Improved Performance

On Monday, November 27th, 2023, the University of Nairobi held its Annual Staff Recognition Awards Ceremony, a grand celebration of the exceptional contributions made by its dedicated faculty and staff. The event served as a testament to the university's unwavering commitment to recognizing and rewarding outstanding performance.

Among the notable achievements, the Faculty of the Built Environment and Design, under the leadership of Dean Prof. Lilac Osanjo, was recognized as the most improved faculty, demonstrating a remarkable surge in performance from the previous year. This achievement highlights the faculty's unwavering dedication to providing high-quality education and research.

Furthermore, the ceremony acknowledged the outstanding performance of several departments within the Faculty of the Built Environment and Design. The Department of Real Estate, Construction Management & Quantity Surveying emerged as the most improved department, showcasing its commitment to innovation and excellence in its respective field.

Additionally, the Department of Architecture secured an impressive sixth position out of 61, while the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the Department of Real Estate, Construction Management & Quantity Surveying claimed 21st and 30th positions, respectively. The Department of Arts & Design also garnered recognition, achieving the 37th position.

These remarkable achievements underscore the unwavering commitment of the Faculty of the Built Environment and Design's staff members to fostering a vibrant and intellectually stimulating learning environment. Their dedication to excellence is a cornerstone of the faculty's success.

The event featured the signing of the Performance Contract for the Financial Year 2023/2024, highlighting the university's dedication to continuous improvement. Prof. Amukowa Anangwe, Chair of Council, stressed the importance of teamwork, stating, "Teamwork and harmony are vital to our success. We must work collectively towards a shared vision."

Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama emphasized the role of performance contracting in streamlining management and operations, noting its effectiveness in driving efficiency across the institution. He explained, "The introduction of performance contracting in Kenya aimed to establish performance measurements, clarify corporate objectives, embrace customer orientation, & foster a focus on productivity & cost reduction to enhance service delivery."

Mr. Brian Ouma, Chief Operations Officer, highlighted the extension of performance contracting to individual staff appraisal, emphasizing the periodic assessment of employees' job performance against University competencies.

The ceremony marked the culmination of a year of outstanding performance by UoN staff, with all faculties achieving a "Very Good" grade. Prof. Kiama commended the commitment to excellence in service delivery.

The University extended congratulations to all staff members, recognizing their contributions to quality education and training. The annual staff performance recognition award ceremony stands as a testament to the university's dedication to acknowledging and rewarding excellence.
