POPULATION AND DEMOGRAPHY FOR PLANNERS

Introduction to population issues in rural, urban and regional planning. Inter and intra-urban and regional population migrations in selected cities and regions in Kenya or/and any other part of East Africa. Labour and employment factors in population migration. Census data as basis for urban infrastructures and services planning and provision. Delimitation and relationship between urban and rural census data collection units (CDCU) and the established planning and municipal administration jurisdictions. Concepts of fertility and population growth. Methods of calculating fertility, rates of urban and regional population growth and projections, applications.
