Team Anchor Claims Victory in UNSA 2024 Elections

The University of Nairobi Student Association (UNSA) elections for the 2024-2025 academic year were held on March 27th, 2024. The elections saw Team Anchor emerge victorious in the Faculty of Built Environment and Design.

Team Anchor's leadership team boasts a strong line-up, with Joshua Parsimei Kodoyo at the helm as Chairperson, Ammaarah Ahmed Salyani as Vice-Chairperson, Meteti Joshua assuming the role of Secretary General, and Ngige Teresia Muthoni taking charge as Treasurer. Vincent Irungu Kamara will champion Sports & Social Welfare, Peter Kipchirchir will represent Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and Furaha Kahashi Felicite will be the voice for International Students.

This year's elections were a testament to innovation. Conducted through the E-ballot platform, students cast their votes online from anywhere in the country. This resulted in a significant leap in voter turnout, with an impressive 45.7% participation, a marked improvement from the previous year's 38%.

Cheers erupted at Taifa Hall on March 28th as Team Anchor officially took their oaths, marking the start of their leadership journey. The swearing-in ceremony, graced by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama, highlighted the importance of collaboration between university administration and UNSA leadership in propelling the institution forward as a transformative force.

Building on this theme, Prof. Collins Odote, Chair of the UNSA Independent Electoral Commission, commended the surge in student participation. He acknowledged the challenges faced in this year's tight timeframe and advocated for the earlier appointment of commissioners in future elections.

Echoing this sentiment, Prof. Kiama pledged his commitment to working hand-in-hand with UNSA leaders. Together, they aim to implement solutions that enhance the university's reputation and create more work-study opportunities for students, fostering their contribution to the industry.

The 2024 UNSA elections were more than just a victory for Team Anchor. They signified a thriving democratic spirit among the University of Nairobi's student body. This collaborative spirit sets the stage for collective efforts towards academic excellence and a lasting societal impact. With Team Anchor at the helm, the university community can look forward to a bright future filled with promise and progress.

Congratulations, Team Anchor, on this well-deserved triumph!
