Overview
Bachelor of interior design is a unique programme offered that is attractive to the youth seeking to create employment through application of creative skills. The programme was developed to address the rapidly expanding field of art and design which responds to societal challenges by imparting skills and opening opportunities for self-employment. The schools unique expertise in interior design lends itself to the development of unique, aesthetic and pleasing furniture and interior spaces both public and private. There is high demand in this area as has been witnessed by fast growth in the building sector in Kenya.
Graduates from the Bachelor of Interior Design program, will be able to apply appropriate design principles including universal and inclusive design (WHO 2011) that seeks to mainstream products, services and interiors for disabled persons, in their professional practice. They will be able to develop sustainable spatial solutions that fulfil structural, functional, environmental, aesthetic and psychological needs.
The programme has a mix of delivery strategies that includes lectures, professional interactions, technology-supported learning and case studies. The students are provided with opportunities to compete with their peers both locally and internationally.

Structure
- The Bachelor of Interior Design programme is offered under two modules; full time (Module I and Module II). The degree programme, is a four year programme that runs for a minimum of eight (8)semesters and a maximum of sixteen (16) semesters from the date of registration.
- The student shall be required to attend at least 2/3 of lectures, undertake a research project and present a portfolio.
- To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Interior Design, a student must take and pass all the 57 course units offered. These include the common undergraduate courses.

Admission Requirements
Admission to Bachelor’s in Interior Design degree programme will be based on any one of the following minimum qualifications:
1. KCSE mean grade C+ or equivalent and an overall mean grade of C+ in each of the 3 clusters below:
- Mathematics
- English/Swahili
- Any cluster III (Art & Design, Home-science, Woodwork, Metalwork, Building and Construction, Drawing and Design, Agriculture OR
Any cluster IV (History & Govt., Geography, C.R.E., Social Education & Ethics, Music, French.
- KCSE mean grade C- or equivalent plus a Certificate and Diploma in a relevant discipline.
- O Level Division III or equivalent plus a Certificate and Diploma in a relevant discipline
- Diploma from University of Nairobi or other recognized institutions and an aggregate of C in KCSE or equivalent.
- A Level with two principal passes, IB or equivalent in relevant subjects.
- Degree from a recognized University.

Exam Regulations
h academic year shall be divided into two semesters.
2. No candidate shall be admitted to an examination unless he/she has satisfactorily attended the prescribed course of study.
3. Examinations shall consist of written papers, projects, studios and portfolios.
4. One course unit shall be equivalent to 45 Contact Hours.
5. All course units, except projects, studios and portfolios, shall be examined during the semester in which they are taken. Such examinations shall consist of continuous
assessment, course tests and end of semester examinations. The end of semester
examinations shall account for 70% of the total marks, while continuous assessment
shall account for 30%.
6. All studio and portfolio examination shall be conducted at the end of the academic
year in which they are taken and shall be equivalent to six course units.
7. Research projects shall be examined at the end of the academic year and shall be equivalent to four course units.
8. The Pass Mark for each Course Unit shall be 40%.
9. In order to proceed to the next year of study, a candidate shall be required to pass
in any year of study shall:-
(a) Be allowed to take supplementary examinations in the course units failed
provided that the number of failed course units shall not exceed FOUR
in the year of study.
(b) Be allowed to repeat the year of study if he/she fails to satisfy the examiners
in the Supplementary examinations.
(c) Be allowed to Repeat the year if he/she fails in more than FOUR course units in the
year of study.
(d) Be allowed to Repeat the year if he/she fails in studio or Portfolio Examinations.
(e) Be discontinued if he/she fails in more than eight course units.
11. A pass obtained in a supplementary examination shall be 40% in the students academic record.
12. No candidate shall be permitted to repeat any year of study more than once.
13. The final award of degree shall be based on a weighting of the last three years of the
degree programme.
14. The final degree awarded shall be classified into FIRST CLASS HONOURS; UPPER SECOND CLASS HONOURS; LOWER SECOND CLASS HONOURS AND PASS as Follows:-
(I) First Class Honours 70% - 100% A
(ii) Upper Second Class Honours 60% - 69% B
(iii) Lower Second Class Honours 50% - 59% C
(iv) Pass 40% - 49% D
(v) Fail 0 - 39% E
Provided that a candidate who repeats in any of the last three years of study shall not be eligible for the award of an Honours degree.
