The department of Arts and Design (StAD) was established in January, 2006. It evolved from the previous Department of Design (DoD), in the University, which had been in existence since the mid-1960s. By 1967, a 3 year Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Design were offered as degree courses. Admissions were by portfolio until 1975. The basic structure was a one-year foundation course for both degree programs and a specialization (major) with subsidiaries (minors) selected for the proceeding two years
