Orientation: Dean's Address to 1st years

The Faculty of Built Environment and Design of held an orientation meeting for first-year students on Wednesday, 21st September 2022 from 9 am to 12 pm at Space 108. The First year students reported to the Faculty on 19th September 2022; this session was organized to officially welcome first-year students to the faculty and offer essential guidance concerning the resources available to support their academic journey.

While speaking at the event, the Dean, Faculty of the Built Environment and Design, Prof. Lilac Osanjo began her welcome address by saying “You are joining the best university in the country and the region, and you have equal chances to prove yourself worthy of the prestigious courses you have landed.” She further challenged the students to brace themselves for thorough academic work and rigorous extra-curriculum activities to build wholesome career personalities for the global market, "University life should be fun wrapped with responsibility. You will get to engage with many different people and activities which will contribute positively or negatively to your academic journey", she said. The Dean also cautioned the freshmen to be wary of bad company and focus on the main goal ahead of everything else.  The dean also highlighted the many resources available to the student's academic and non-academic needs.

The chairmen of the 4 Departments also addressed the freshmen, they took time to motivate the students as well as advise them on University life. "The faculty is known for producing some of the best overall students every graduation, and this year is no exception," observed Dr. Samwel Mwituria Maina, the Chairman, Department of Art and Design.

The university fraternity took the opportunity to congratulate the new students upon succeeding in their final high school exams and choosing the University of Nairobi. The administrative and management staff observed that time management; diligence, hard work, and self-discipline are critical factors for academic success.
