UoN 68th Graduation

The University of Nairobi held its 68th graduation ceremony on Friday, December 16th, 2022, at Taifa Hall Main Campus. Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, Chancellor of the University, conferred and awarded 6,959 degrees and diplomas during the televised ceremony. The lively event featured key speeches from University administration as well as Dr. Belio Kipsang, Principal Secretary of the State Department of Basic Education.

There were 129 graduates from the Faculty of Built Environment and Design. Speaker after speaker congratulated the students and wished them luck in their future endeavors.

PS Kipsang congratulated the graduands saying “I have a lot of faith in your capabilities because you have been prepared to be the best after going through great minds of scholars available at this premier institution. I congratulate you.” He further lauded the University for fulfilling their mandate of teaching and research to produce human resources and data that will drive the Kenyan economy.

The Chair of Council Prof. Miriam Were also shared her warm wishes with the graduating class stating “I wish you the best in your future plans. By now, your aspirations are clear.  Your degree gives you a good foundation towards fulfilling your personal dreams.  However, regardless of your specialization, I encourage you to expand your dreams into broader dimensions.” She urged the graduands to apply the knowledge they have learnt to help others in your communities and nations.  

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama could not hide his joy as he congratulated the graduating class saying “the 68th graduation is the culmination of a successful academic calendar –and I want to thank all staff and students for making it possible-without interruptions. It is a mark of academic discipline and maturity. It is my conviction that if we continue pulling together, we shall make this University great. We shall take it where it ought to be –A vibrant, viable, resilient and sustainable university’’. Prof. Kiama highlighted some of the gains and milestones the University continues to achieve key among them increased partnerships, recognition of exemplary staff, Research activities through collaborations and Performance of the University in the various rankings where UoN has ranked top and establishment of the Gender-Based Recovery center in partnership with UNESCO.

The Chancellor Dr. Vijoo Rattansi “Graduands, permit me in all humility to say that we celebrate you! Each of you shall shortly transition from student to graduate, an act which bestows upon thee great responsibility for man and country alike. You will soon assume new status as role models and paragons of virtue. Society will look up to you for leadership, stewardship, and solutions. These are responsibilities that must not be taken lightly and should be discharged with the greatest degree of dexterity and humility. I beseech thee not to let the world down!
