Visual Design Conference 2022 Students Exhibition- Mellisa Acheing

Melissa Joe Achieng, a 2nd Year student pursing a Bachelor of Arts in Design Degree was among the exhibitors of the Visual Design 2022 organized by the Department of Art and Design – Faculty of Built Environment and Design.  About the Visual Design Conference

Melissa showcased acrylic paintings -abstract portraits. She shared the inspiration behind her portraits saying “The first one is titled Kengeza which communicates the battle between the flesh and the spirit; while the second one is called Deborah which is a depiction of the Deborah- the Bible character in Judges 4.” She went on to thank the department for providing a platform for her to exhibit her work as well as the insights she learned from all the guest speakers and participants stating ““My biggest take away from the 2 day conference was the realization of the need for tailor-made curriculums within African educational institutions, to better suit Africans.”

The 2-day conference themed  “Evolution of Afrikan Visual Design in the Digital World brought together creative’s to reflect on three broad aspects of Virtual Reality (VR), the Future and the Power to Influence. The international conference featured guest speakers from Nigeria, Kenya, Canada and India who shared experiences and research findings with participants.
