Welcoming a New Generation

The Faculty of  Built Environment and Design warmly welcomed 2026/2027 first-year students this week Monday 24th Augast 2026, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter at the University of Nairobi.

More than 500 new students joined the Faculty across four departments: Architecture; Art and Design; Real Estate, Construction Management and Quantity Surveying; and Urban and Regional Planning.

On Wednesday, August 26, the students gathered in Hall 108 for the Faculty Dean’s Address. They were welcomed into the University community and introduced to the academic expectations, facilities, resources, and opportunities available to them.

In his remarks Dean, Prof. Owiti Abiero K’Akumu congratulated the students on earning a place at the University of Nairobi and encouraged them to embrace university life, work hard, and make the most of the opportunities ahead.

Welcoming a New Generation

The students were reminded that they are joining an institution with a proud history of producing professionals and leaders who have contributed to Kenya and beyond.

They were encouraged to appreciate the University’s legacy while recognizing that they are now part of the generation responsible for carrying it forward.

The celebrations continued on Thursday, August 27, when Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ayub Gitau addressed the entire first-year cohort at the iconic Taifa Hall.

Highlighting the importance of the University’s traditions, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged the new students to experience University life fully and to approach their journey with confidence, purpose, and a strong sense of belonging.

“Today, you are that generation.”

The message to the new students was clear: embrace the opportunity, make meaningful connections, work hard, and leave your mark.

As the 2026/2027 cohort begins its journey, the Faculty of the Built Environment and Design proudly welcomes them to the University of Nairobi.
