The University of Nairobi held the annual Students' Recognition Ceremony on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, at Taifa Hall. This prestigious event acknowledges and rewards outstanding students who have consistently demonstrated exceptional performance in academics, research, leadership, and various extracurricular activities.
610 students from the 2022/2023 academic year qualified for recognition across their respective faculties. Amongst these exceptional individuals, 66 students from the Faculty of Built Environment and Design received various cash prizes and trophies.
Nzioka Arain Muindi- the class of September 2023 Valedictorian, representing the Faculty as the top academic performer, was awarded the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Trustee Fund and University of Nairobi Alumni Association prize. In a heartfelt speech, Nzioka, speaking on behalf of all 610 awardees, congratulated his fellow students and emphasized the dedication and hard work required to achieve academic excellence. He further shared his plans to pursue his Master's studies at Harvard University in August, inspiring his peers to strive for greatness in all aspects of their lives.
Dr. Muketha, the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Design, presented the list of awardees from the Faculty, commending their achievements and wishing them well in their future endeavors.
Prof. Leonida Kerubo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor- Academic Affairs, underscored the University's commitment to nurturing exceptional graduates. She highlighted UoN's role in fostering a vibrant learning environment that celebrates student excellence across diverse fields. Prof. Stephen Kiama, Vice-Chancellor, further echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in the caliber of UoN's student body–consistently producing some of the finest students in the nation.
Following the ceremony, recognized students participated in one-on-one sessions with sponsors and donors. These sessions provided valuable motivation, fostered connections, and opened doors for potential future support. 107 strategic partners, including corporations and individual well-wishers, participated in recognizing the outstanding students financially.
