The University of Nairobi officially installed its 9th Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayub Njoroge Gitau, during a colourful ceremony held at Taifa Hall on Friday, 17th July 2026. The event marked an important milestone in the University's leadership.

The installation took place 65 days after Prof. Gitau's appointment and followed the University's long-standing tradition of formally ushering in a new Vice-Chancellor.

From 8 to 10 April 2026, five undergraduate students from the Faculty of Built Environment and Design stepped onto one of the continent’s most consequential platforms: the Second Africa Urban Forum (AUF2). Held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), the high-level summit placed these future industry leaders directly at the nexus of policy, finance, and sustainable development. They served as official volunteers supporting the Shelter Afrique Development Bank exhibition booth. For three days, they were not students observing from the periphery.

On Thursday, 26 February 2026, the Faculty of Built Environment and Design was among the units represented at the University’s 2024–2025 Staff Performance Appraisal Awards. The ceremony also marked the signing of the FY2025/2026 Performance Contracts. It was a moment that linked recognition to responsibility.

Across the University, 421 staff members were honored for attaining an “Excellent” rating in the 2023/2024 appraisal cycle. Of these, 221 were women and 200 men. Twelve colleagues received Long Service Awards for between 30 and 40 years of uninterrupted service.
