Prof. Washington Olima

  • Trained and widely experienced Land Economist, Researcher, Consultant and Spatial Planner with wide experience in Land Policy, Land Taxation, Urban Land Tenure, Land Management and Administration, Property Valuation and Appraisals, Monitoring and Evaluation of Projects, Housing and Urban Economic Studies, Urban Land Use Planning and Integrated Strategic Urban Development Planning.
  • Held various management roles in the University of Nairobi and outside the University as a Deputy Vice Chancellor in Charge of Planning, Administration and Finance at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.
  • Participated in a number of research activities and projects funded by World Bank, IFAD, EU, FAO, IUCN, IUCEA, DFID, Volkswagen Foundation, Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and for the Kenya Government.

Mr. Maleche Zachariah

Mr. Maleche Zachariah

 

  • Mr. Maleche (Fellow Member) established link between Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) and the University of Nottingham, Institute of Planning Studies. Through this link, he raised funds that benefited Prof. Ndegwa, Prof. Johnston Kiamba, and Dr. Obiero, in terms of advancing their Masters and PhD s studies.
  • Mr. Maleche was the resource person for UNCRD Africa region and was tasked with training personnel in Namibia, Botswana, and Ethiopia.
  • Mr. Maleche created training course manuals for regional planning, urban planning and rural planning, These coumaterial are used in planning schools across East Africa region.
  • Mr. Maleche acted as the Chair of DURP during which he developed collaborative staff training through exchange program with the University of Waterloo and Nottingham.
  • Mr. Maleche was a resource person as a chief evaluator of the urban planning program of the Makerere University.
  • Mr. Maleche was a dedicated external examiner for various Universities including but not limited to University of Zambia, University of Zimbabwe, University of Botswana, University of Maseno and Moi University.
  • Mr. Maleche was a visiting lecturer in various Universities including the University of Nottingham, Institute of Planning Studies and the Makerere University, Department of Geography; where he delivered a crash programme for Masters in Physical Planning.
  • Mr. Maleche was a renowned father of planning in the planning fraternity and was invited in several events as guest speaker and government advisory boards on planning matters.
  • For his services towards promoting the academic planning discipline in University and building planning practice and profession, Mr. Maleche was recognized with the highest title of honor: Fellow of Kenya Institute of Planners (FKIP).

Ms. Ndungu Beatrice Wanjiku

Ms. Ndungu Beatrice Wanjiku

  • Miss Beatrice Ndungu has served with dedication as a technologist in the Department of Urban & Regional Planning since 1992 to date.
  • She assisted Prof. Elijah Ndegwa in keying in one of the first University of Nairobi Calendars together with Senior Registrars in the University of Nairobi, Planning Section, around 2000 / 2002. This was a major milestone in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) and University of Nairobi.
  • Due to her institutional memory, Miss Beatrice Ndungu has helped new Chairmen of DURP find their way around staff and students administration matters, and, especially, the keying in of Examination results.
  • Her ability to willingly take on other tasks, outside her main line of duty, has seen her multi- task, especially at times when the Department has reshuffles in the Secretarial staff. This ability has benefitted both the students and academic staff.
  • Miss Beatrice Ndungu is also very good at handling students’ online registrations, follow-up with fee balances and other online related issues.
  • Miss Beatrice Ndungu is quite committed to her work; and her love for computers has made her a darling of many students whom she voluntarily helps on a day to day basis.

Ms. Andeka Asenath

Ms. Andeka Asenath

  • The late Miss Asenath Andeka was an exemplary postgraduate student at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP), University of Nairobi.
  • Miss Asenath Andeka was one of the most amenable postgraduate student the DURP at the time of her passing.
  • Miss Asenath Andeka’s talent as a leader among students was immediately evident from her ability to articulate the needs of new students. She, Asenath, as well turned out to be a very likable person by her class of nineteen (19) postgraduate students; and from then on Miss Asenath Andeka was always unanimously elected by her classmates as their very able and courageous Class Representative.
  • Miss Andeke’s role as a leader of senior students was very good. She responded to the Chairman’s emails, telephone calls or class whatsapp communication about her class, promptly and with maturity. She also freely called for direction, whenever there were learning issues about her class that she needed addressed by the Chairman’s office.
  • Miss Asenath Andeka participated effectively by speaking truthfully during class representatives meetings that were organized from time to time by the Chairman to discuss concerns of the students.
  • Miss Asenath Andeka was indeed an active individual and highly motivated postgraduate learner.
  • Given her performance in both planning theory and practical courses, Miss Asenath Andeka was rated by her lecturers as one of the enthusiastic students and highly motivated learners. She was among postgraduate students who contributed a great deal in making work both Chairman of DURP and lecturers much easier in the Two and half (2½) Years.
  • From the foregoing, it’s quite evident that the untimely passing on of Miss Asenath Andeka has indeed robbed a student who was destined for a fulfilling professional career as a planner in the service of her community and this great nation - Kenya.
