The Nairobi International Trade Fair was held from 26th September to 2nd October 2022. During the 7-day Nairobi show; 3 projects were presented by staff and students from the Faculty of Built Environment and Design.
In the Research a Development category, the Faculty presented the Revitalization of Mackinnon Market in Old Town Mombasa. In the Youth Empowerment category, the Faculty presented the Water Hyacinth furniture and Grow Kits for urban gardening. The Water Hyacinth Furniture project was position 2 under the category for the best stand in youth activities, empowerment, and capacity building for its project in designing water hyacinth furniture among fishing communities as a form of youth empowerment. The project seeks to partner with fishing communities to implement a scalable, replicable, and economically-viable strategy to engage disadvantaged fishers, their families, and local businesses.
Overall the University of Nairobi scooped 6 trophies; the best stand in youth activities, empowerment, and capacity building, the best stand in Research and Development, the best stand embracing ICT systems, the best University stand, the best innovation and Invention stand, and the best stand that promote national cohesion and integration development.
