Una Europa–Africa Seed Funding 2024: Respiratory Health, Outdoor Air Pollution and Solid Waste Management: A Built Environment Perspective (RESPIRA_ABEP)

This project assesses the impact of mismanaged solid waste burning on air pollution and chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs), focusing on Nakuru's Gioto and Nairobi’s Dandora Dump sites. Aiming to reduce air quality inequity and improve CRD care, it involves communities in devising waste management strategies for more sustainable urban planning.

Seed funding will be used to organise workshops and stakeholder meetings, engaging researchers and professionals at various career stages from partner universities for knowledge exchange and developing joint funding applications.

Activating existing partnerships with local stakeholders, we seek to enhance understanding of the role of waste in CRD management and inform policy, leveraging lasting partnerships for future action-research.
