“Let us take the students back to the Libraries. Staff and students must make good use of all of the resources available in the libraries." This was the overarching message conveyed to staff and students who attended the Faculty Library expo which began with a bang on Wednesday, April 26th, 2023. The theme of the 2-day expo is “Book Speak: Discover and Connect”
Prof. Justus Munyoki, representing the Vice Chancellor, praised the Faculty for pioneering the Library Expo to showcase all the resources the Library has to offer, stating, "Our libraries are a rich source of information; we have equipped our library system with books and software to ensure our students have unlimited access to information." He went on to say, "This expo was conceptualized to cultivate a reading culture in our students as well as encourage our faculty to publish." Prof. Munyoki advised students to spend time in a real library as well as use accessible e-resources.
Prof. Julius Ogengo, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Academic Affairs, also encouraged students to take advantage of the University Libraries' services. Prof. Ogeng’o emphasized the Library's continuing vital role in the University’s core mandate of teaching and learning. The University management has made a concerted effort to provide all libraries with resources that will benefit current and future generations. "This expo comes at an important time because we are on a mission to send students back to libraries to read physical books, conduct research, and generate new knowledge." The materials in our libraries are invaluable, and we are constantly adding them to stay relevant and current.
"We are proud to be the first Faculty to host a Library expo, we have opened up our doors to showcase the resources we have and encourage our students and faculty to put these resources to good use," said Prof. Lilac Osanjo, Dean, Faculty of Built Environment.
Mrs. Angela Mumo, Director of Library and Information Services, highlighted the several initiatives that the department is conducting to improve teaching and learning. "We are holding this expo to raise awareness." We want our staff and students to know that our libraries are well-stocked with valuable materials that are available to all staff and students.
Mr. Peter Waweru, the Faculty Librarian, urged people to visit each stand as well as the library to become acquainted with all of the available materials.
During the event, the Registrar, Dr. Mbali, and Departmental heads; Department of Architecture Arch. Musau Kimeu, Department of Real Estate, Construction Management, and Quantity Surveying Arch. Peter Njeru, and Department of Art and Design Dr. Samuel Maina, all made a strong appeal to students to use the Library and all of its resources.
